Event Details

Located in the heart of Sonoma County, 70 miles north of San Francisco, and known internationally for its wineries and scenic pleasures, the Oliver Ranch is home to 18 remarkable site-specific installations; the most recent of which is Ann Hamilton’s  The Tower  where commissioned dance, poetry, theatre, and music performances take place. The picturesque, 100-acre property was originally bought by Steve and Nancy Oliver in 1981 to graze a few extra sheep—or, as Steve Oliver says, “My daughter’s 4-H project gone bad.” The ranch’s evolution from exiled sheep quarters to world-renowned sculpture ranch was gradual and organic, a natural convergence of the Olivers’ longstanding passion for art and deep connection to the land. Artists and architects represented at the Oliver Ranch include, Andy Goldsworthy, Ann Hamilton, Jim Jennings, Dennis Leon, Jim Melchert, Bruce Nauman, Martin Puryear, David Rabinowitch, Fred Sandback, and Richard Serra, among others.

Please note the following important information before you purchase your ticket:

  • Smoking and food are prohibited onsite, although personal water bottles and energy bars are fine.

  • Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended and due to the nature of the site, the tour is not ADA accessible.

TRAVEL INFORMATION:

Due to the secure nature of this site, please note the following *required* travel logistics for this tour:

All participants MUST drive themselves to the following meeting location on Friday, September 17 and MUST arrive no later than 3:30 pm:

  • Park and Ride Geyersville (also known as Visitor Plaza), located at Remmel Road at HWY 128 in Geyserville, one half block west of the train tracks. If parking is not available in the lot itself, free street parking will be available nearby.

A private shuttle will be waiting at this location, which will shuttle participants directly to Oliver Ranch for the prompt tour start time of 4:00 pm. Snacks will be available on board the shuttle.

NOTE: Anyone who does not arrive at the Park and Ride Geyersville by 3:30 pm will not be accommodated and, furthermore, private vehicles are not allowed at Oliver Ranch. Therefore, we strongly recommend leaving San Francisco no later than 1:30 pm on Friday, September 17 to avoid rush hour traffic. The estimated travel time to the Park and Ride Geyersville location is one hour and 45 minutes.

Once the tour of Oliver Ranch has concluded, we estimate that participants will be returned to their vehicles via the shuttle by approximately 7:00 pm that evening.

This tour is perfect if your plans include enjoying a weekend in the wine country.
